Last weekend I had the pleasure of going to the Art Gallery of Alberta and seeing this fantastic exhibit. I won't lie but I went in with rather low expectations as the artist isn't one of my favourites but I was pleasantly surprised! I was quiet taken with his earlier sketches and paintings- Oddly enough the only one I could find a picture of on the internet is the top one (he did the painting and then his mother wrote the lovely script beside it). However, in searching I was led to these other, equally as charming, paintings by him!
Wanna know who the artist was? Click here
P.S They also had his wigs on display- which I found kinda hilarious!

'For the past couple years I have photographed surfers in Montauk and in California. Their activity takes place on the water; the people are persistent elements in a shifting scene. The singular, primitive act of surfing on the water is tempered by the social and negotiated state of human interaction on the shore. The surfers act as a bridge between the sea as an unbridled force of nature and the shoreline, a place governed by social expectations.'- Joni Sternbach

Aren't these photos amazing? They're taken using a process called 'wet-plate collodion'. I'm not even going to lie and tell you that it took me a while to realize that these were modern day photographs!

It's been raining like mad here for the past week and there's no signs of stopping, so here's some cheerful pics by Hugh Stewart of girls (quite glamourously) mucking about in their wellies! Yay for the rain!
